Creative Projects To Make From Old Photographs
By admin | February 4, 2012
Just about everybody has extra photos around the house. They might be photos that are duplicates of other pictures you used in albums, or perhaps they’re photos that just didn’t turn out the way you hoped they would. They might even be photographs of people you don’t even know, particularly if you inherited bins of photos from relatives. How about using those photos that you don’t need but cannot bear to throw away to create some unique and fun crafts? You’ll end up with some excellent crafty results that you can use to decorate your home, or possibly even present as gifts.
Picture Placemats
You may use those old photos to make wonderful placemats to place on your table. Get started by using a placemat you already have to trace the shape onto a thin piece of cardboard or maybe poster board. Then stick the pictures to one side of the shape with some “photo splits” or perhaps some glue. You can line them up straight in a grid pattern, or attach them in a random collage fashion. When done, seal the placemat by cutting out two pieces of clear contact paper that are both large enough to extend about a half inch on every side of the cardboard placemat. Sandwich the placemat in between the two sheets of contact paper, making sure to seal the two contact paper pieces carefully along all the free edges.
Old-Fashioned Art for Your Wall
If you have some quaint black and white pictures, you can use them to create vintage wall art. Just select a few old photos that have a great deal of visual appeal, and put them in unique round picture frames or vintage photo frames to hang in a small collection on your wall. Or, scan an old photo, making it bigger so that you can make a much larger piece of artwork. This is a fantastic way of adding some fantastic vintage art to your house without the need to spend a lot of money.
Picture Box for Storage Space
If your nice photos are kept in boxes, you might wish to decorate those boxes with some old pictures. Stick them onto the box using a collage technique, covering the bottom of the box and the lid separately. After the glue has dried all the way your photo boxes will certainly be attractive enough for displaying on a shelf.
Art That Will Show Your Family Tree
If you’re working with pictures of family members and relations, you can make a beautiful family tree poster. Begin with a ready-made family tree chart, or come up with your own. After that, fill out the details for each member of the family, and then glue pictures next to the data on each person. This can be a good way of using photos of family groupings, since you can just cut a small portrait of every family member out of one photo. When you are all done with this, simply put the completed product in a picture frame and hang it on your wall.
Decoupage Picture Crafts
Mixing decoupage with old pictures can be a fun way to create some truly beautiful craft projects. You will find full directions for creating a number of different crafts on the Mod Podge package. Before using photos for decoupage, spray them with a couple of coats of clear acrylic spray, which will keep photos from smudging when the Mod Podge is applied.
So do not throw away those old pictures just yet! You’re sure to enjoy using them for these fun crafts.
